My Supervisor
She’s showing me how to set up this new tripod! I would say she’s my helper like my dad used to do with me, but no, she’s definitely my supervisor.

The Dreamer’s Canvas – Caleb R. Marsh
This hit way out of left field for me, the all knowing algorithm suggested it, and like a small fish presented with a shiny hook I decided to take a bite. It was on Kindle Unlimited and every time I read three meh books and think to myself “Self, I should cancel KU because it’s got a lot of mediocre literature.” something wonderful writhes out from the depths and takes me on an adventure. This was the one in a…

Deep Sea: Storm of Teeth by James Calloway
Fun but unfocused. I loved the concept. But for a short story it felt drawn out and the descriptions of the scenes and atmosphere took precedence over the plot or characters. The characters felt disposable (granted, for cosmic horror short story… aren’t we all?) and the reveal of the plot lynchpin was almost immediately ignored by even the main character. Gripes aside, I enjoyed it for what it was, I feel it would make a better Tales from the Crypt…

Pirates by William Meikle
If you love pirates and cosmic horror (well, or just horror) This book is for you! You would think with all the ghost ships throughout history and the abyss that is the sea, you would have more swashbuckling cosmic horror tales than space tales, but you’d be wrong. Which isn’t to say that I don’t thoroughly enjoy space tales… but I digress. The three tales here are well written with believable characters. One thing I thoroughly enjoyed was these weren’t…

New (to me) book, or: A day that ends in y.
One thing I will give this new America, book learnin’ material is dirt cheap! I have been able to snag like seven books in the past three months that just a couple of years ago were at least as expensive as MSRP cover price used, if not two to three times (one book that I recently got for ten bucks used, was $120 used last year!) more. Also I got some I-Ching dice (I am firmly a coin method guy…

New (to me) books.
My first introduction to I-Ching was about 35 years ago when a librarian in South Carolina suggested it because I was getting books on ancient religious texts like the Egyptian Book of the Dead, nordic history and eddas, Wicca, kemetic reconstructionism, Japanese Tendai Mikkyo Buddhism, and Mayan culture and just… devouring anything and everything I could about world religions and mythology. I was really into heavy metal music, science fiction television, horror movies, and fantasy books (okay mainly Red Sonja…

I-Ching used book haul!
Okay it’s two books, but these used to be USD $ 100 (or more!) each new, and sometimes maybe half that if you’re lucky used, and I hadn’t tried to source them used in about a year… so fuck yeah I was psyched to get these! I was three years old when the first one came out in 1979, and six when the second hit shelves. Granted depending on if you go by shamanic use or first printing in it’s…

Mini I-Ching (Yijing 易經) coins and turtle.
I saw this on Buddy Bezos’ Buyatorium and made a poor financial decision, well not really… I dig it, but was it necessary? The full size coins I have also in the pictures are a bit larger than and about twice to two and a half times as thick as a US Quarter. They store inside of the turtle shell which is spring loaded. I kind of love it though!
